Ana Bennett, VP of IT, Hisco

Gary is a committed and insightful leader. He truly cares about his team and the company's success. He strives to find win-win solutions to deliver what the business needs, always ensuring the security of the company, while developing a strong IT service culture. Gary takes the time to meet with every person in his organization at least once a month. He invests in his team and gets to know them to the level where he can best leverage their talents and motivate them. Personally, I've learned a lot from Gary and there are two qualities, from the many he possesses, that I admire most about him: first is his ability to take accountability for failures and convert them into opportunities for improvement and growth; second is his generosity providing frequent, specific, and valuable feedback. He is extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of industrial distribution and always eager to share his knowledge with others. Gary is great at negotiating with vendors and dives deeply to understand technical and non-technical challenges. He asks the right questions at the right time and continuously challenges his teams to look into the future. Gary would bring tremendous value to any organization as a fractional CIO/CTO, consultant, or board member. I consider myself very fortunate to have worked under such an ethical, inclusive, and inspiring mentor.

John Roesmaladi, Senior Director of Security and IT Infrastructure, Hisco

I’ve had the pleasure of working for Gary the last 8.5 years, during which we’ve established a great partnership and were able to navigate and complete many successful projects. Since the first day I met him, I’ve been impressed with Gary’s ability to lead multiple teams and his ability to consistently deliver amazing results for our company. Gary is very data driven and many of the company’s critical decisions were made because of his persistency to use factual information. Not only is he a great leader, but he also helped me tremendously with my career advancement. His ability to get the best out of people through his management style is one of the key reasons I am where I am today. I’m happy that Gary is now enjoying his semi-retirement, but once he’s ready to do some work, he would be a terrific addition for anyone looking to navigate through complex business processes or to mentor. I’m incredibly grateful to have had him as a boss and I wish him all the best.

Katie Guerra, Training and Development Manager, Hisco

I had the pleasure of working under Gary on projects at Hisco for many years. What makes Gary an amazing leader? His ability to hold you accountable and at the same time making you feel like a valuable member of the team. He leads with grace and integrity. You want to work for Gary and produce great output. He has the ability to understand end user processes and explain the backend code all at the same time in simple terms I can understand. He has instrumental in acquisitions, software upgrades and with new ERP roll outs. Gary has in-depth knowledge in procurement, accounting, IT development and customer service. Gary is a rare find and Hisco will lose a great leader.

Todd Harris, PMO Manager, Hisco

Gary was an excellent manager and coach. He led by example and wasn't afraid to get in the dirt and really help/teach even the smallest tasks. He navigated the corporate landmines, always brought data to the forefront when debating process changes and strategic initiatives. He was able to effectively manage a constantly changing list of functional priorities and teams. Based on his background, he has a plethora of business knowledge from back-end coding and SQL queries to functional end-user requirements and desires.

Trey Campbell, Account Manager, Infor

I’ve worked with Gary over the last 5 years. He is a strategic leader who works well across the organization, leading evaluations and the associated transformations to maximize the realized value.
Gary has a strong business acumen that allows him to receive information and understand how to best leverage his existing tools and evaluate potential new tools to achieve desired business outcomes.

Tom McElroy, VP of Marketing, Hisco

I worked with Gary on a daily basis at Hisco given the strong link between his SVP IT Role and my position leading Marketing and online/eCommerce. Gary was an impressive contributor to both success in my areas but also to the larger Hisco organization. Gary provides extreme focus, ensuring that his IT resources are working on the company's most important business priorities. Perhaps most impressive is Gary's ability to apply his knowledge from working in business-oriented roles such as Procurement to advising the company at a high level on business best practices. Gary was an excellent partner to me and I can positively recommend him as a highly capable executive leader.

In working with Gary in this role, he guided me with a great strategy and well thought out plans to get there.

Gary believes in helping his team attain their personal and career goals. He has also been a great mentor in helping me establish better time and prioritization management.

I've worked with him closely on implementation IT projects as well as creating brand new Customer Experience processes including VOC.

One of the things that strikes me as the most positive in working with Gary is that he is always looking at, and asking his team, what does success look like. Then holding and measuring ourselves to that answer.

I'd recommend Gary as a proven leader in innovative teams who knows how to deliver the benefits customers and business leaders need.

J. Andrew Schlueter, Global Head of Business Intelligence, Newark Electronics

Gary delivers excellence time and time again with drive, insight, compassion and creativity with a unique perspective that never fails to inspire. His confidence, curiosity, knowledge and tenacity to build strategies across a wide range of disciplines is staggering as this can only be done by someone who can consistently bridge the gap between IT and the business to find all those sweet spots that elude so many, to move things forward in a positive way for all.

Gary's ability to build teams, drive change and deliver on the strategy is what you will see everyday... what will impress you, is his ability to see benefits and opportunities where most people simply miss and his ability convince you that he is right to degree where you will turn around and start selling others to buy in.

I am proud and privileged for all the years I've been able to work for Gary, and would do it again, without question. I highly recommend Gary to help bring your organization, your team and yourself to the next level.

Cheri Wolfe, Sales Training and Development Manager, Newark Electronics

I cannot recommend him highly enough!

Raymond Kernagis, Vice President of Operations, Newark Electronics

Gary has excellent leadership skills and the ability to deliver results. Gary is a cross-functional team player whose skills are multi-faceted. Gary is focused, driven, and well respected by his peers and colleagues. I would recommend Gary for any senior management position which can utilize his strategic vision and capability to lead.

CJ Renegar, Director, Customer Experience Process Improvement, Newark Electronics

Gary Niemand is easily the best leader I have worked for in my 30 years of work experience. His teams consistently achieve great results each year, grow in terms of adding additional responsibilities, and his people get developed and promoted. He is a rare leader that can drive continuous improvement in various areas from Information Technology, to Customer Experience, to Supply Chain, to Sales Management. In my opinion his top strengths are:

• Information Technology Leadership: He initiated and lead corporate wide efficiency efforts to automate order processing, supply chain, and web management that delivered 40% reduction in resources required and improved the customer experience at the same time. He has a great understanding of the impacts to the business and often anticipates the need for change before others. In my experience many IT departments do not impact the top line or bottom line very effectively. Gary’s departments always deliver significant financial results.

• Strategic Leadership: Gary has incredible influencing skills and can influence stakeholders at all levels and across cultures including Asia, European, and Americas. One of his many strengths is anticipating where events are heading and positioning his teams for success. His ethics and work ethic are always at the highest levels. He often inspires all employees through town hall meetings and individual one to one meetings.

• Analysis: Whether it is deciding which ERP provider to choose, or how to leverage IT to help the business, Gary’s analytical skills are exceptional. He brings research and analytical skills together to find the key drivers to leverage.

I highly recommend Gary to any company that wants a great people and strategic leader to improve their company.

Robert Jones, Director of Global Distribution Operations, J&L Industrial Supply

Gary is quintessential leader in every aspect. He provides a clear vision and direction to his teams, but also is extremely adept in the technical areas of his responsibilities. His in depth knowledge of information (IT) and controls system, business acumen in terms of supply chain and logistics design and management , makes him on the few true experts in these fields. Finally, Gary is also a compassionate, honest, and truly approachable...traits that makes the people around him more affective in their careers.
